Communications Manager

The Communications Manager will work closely with the Boston Foundation?s Director of Publications and Marketing to assist in the writing, editing and design coordination of publications, such as reports, and e-communications, such as e-newsletters, marketing materials and other projects.?? The Manager will also provide communications materials for special Boston Foundation initiatives, white papers and other communications needs.

Essential Responsibilities

• As a member of the Boston Foundation?s Communications Department, the Communications Manager will be primarily responsible for developing materials, including publications, e-newsletters, direct mail pieces, invitations to events, ads for event programs, magazines and newspapers, website copy and other collaterals
• Write and edit content for print, online and social media communications as needed
• Ensure that the Boston Foundation?s efforts to communicate topics of interest are fresh and relevant to the targeted audiences, and reflect the Foundation?s communications strategies and objectives
• Stay abreast of community foundation communications standards nationally
• Assist in editorial and design coordination for miscellaneous communications projects
• Participate in strategic discussions about using communications efforts to build and maintain strong relationships with all audiences

Qualifications

• A Master?s degree in communications, public relations, journalism or a related field and/or 10 to 15 years of related work experience
• Excellent writing and editing skills
• Strong experience in developing materials for nonprofits and/or foundations
• Experience working with photographers and graphic and web designers
• The ideal candidate will be a self-starter, but one who is comfortable working in a team environment, with an interest in the nonprofit sector, philanthropy and social and civic issues and their impact on Greater Boston
